ShelfLife ("we," "our," or "the app") is a food-tracking app that helps you keep tabs on what's in your fridge, freezer, and pantry. This page explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how it's used.
Information We Collect
To provide ShelfLife's core features, we collect the following:
Account information. Your email address, used to create and secure your account and to sign you in.
Food and household data. The items you add to your shelf (name, emoji, expiry date, storage location), along with any household you create or join, and the names of household members you're sharing with. If you're part of a shared household, this information is visible to other members of that household.
Recipe and AI data. When you use the Recipes tab, the names of your expiring ingredients are sent to our AI provider to generate personalized recipe suggestions and images. This data is used only to generate your recipes and is not used to build advertising profiles.
Notification data. A device push token, used solely to deliver expiry reminders to your device via Apple's push notification service.
Usage and diagnostic data. Basic crash reports and app performance data, which help us fix bugs and improve reliability.
How We Use Your Information
To operate core app features: tracking items, sending expiry reminders, and generating recipes
To sync your shelf in real time across household members
To maintain and improve app performance and fix bugs
To provide customer support when you contact us
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use your food or household data for advertising purposes.
Sharing Your Information
Information is shared only in these circumstances:
With other members of a household you create or join, since shared households are a core feature of the app
With service providers who help us operate the app, such as our AI recipe provider, push notification service (Apple), and cloud hosting/database provider — solely to deliver app functionality
If required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of ShelfLife or its users
Data Retention
We retain your account and shelf data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your data is removed from our systems, other than what we're required to retain for legal or security purposes.
Your Choices
You can control which notifications you receive (all household items, or only items you added) from within the app's Settings.
You can leave a shared household at any time.
You can request deletion of your account and associated data by emailing us at the address below.
Children's Privacy
ShelfLife is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when we do, and significant changes will be communicated within the app.
